Cholesteatoma
Cholesteatoma is an abnormal, non-cancerous growth of skin cells that develops in the middle ear or mastoid bone. While it may start as a small cyst, it can grow over time, causing damage to the eardrum and nearby structures, including the tiny bones responsible for hearing. Cholesteatomas often develop as a result of repeated ear infections or long-term Eustachian tube dysfunction. Symptoms may include persistent ear discharge, hearing loss, a feeling of fullness in the ear, dizziness, or in severe cases, muscle weakness in the face. If left untreated, cholesteatoma can lead to significant complications, including permanent hearing loss or infection spreading to other areas.
Treatment for cholesteatoma at The ENT Consultancy first involves a detailed examination, often supported by imaging such as CT scans to assess the growth. Depending on the severity, treatment options include careful monitoring for small and stable cases or surgical removal to eliminate the growth and prevent further damage. Our consultants use advanced techniques to preserve hearing and ensure the ear is fully cleared of the cholesteatoma.
Timely treatment of cholesteatoma is essential to prevent complications and protect your hearing. Contact The ENT Consultancy today to schedule a detailed evaluation and receive expert care.
